The Royal Danish Opera, Wagner's Tristan und Isolde

Denmark’s greatest Wagner singers only make occasional appearances in Denmark since most enjoy extensive international careers. The revival of Tristan und Isolde offers a rare opportunity to experience several of the highly acclaimed Danish Wagner singers in a production by world renowned Wagner tenor Stig Andersenwho also sings the role as Tristan – a part which he has sung all over the world in many different productions. Swedish soprano Iréne Theorin, who has experienced great success since her debut at the Bayreuther Festspiele and Salzburger Festspiele, sings the part as Isolde. Danish Wagner soprano Eva Johansson, a leading talent within her field for a great many years, will perform this season with the Royal Danish Opera, alternating in the role as Isolde. Internationally celebrated bass singer Stephen Milling, who following his recent appearance at Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich could add yet another world-name opera house to his credentials, will perform as King Marke – a role that has brought him to prominence worldwide. Tristan und Isolde will be helmed by the young German rising-star conductor Cornelius Meister, who was recently appointed as chief conductor and music director of the ORF Radio Symphonieorchester Wien and who is indeed a legend in the making. Tristan und Isolde will be performed in German with Danish supertitles.
