The world’s currently most celebrated and coveted opera singer, Russian star soprano Anna Netrebko, will appear in the role as Mimi in the two first performances of the revival at the Opera House of Mikael Melbye’s beautiful and captivating staging of Puccini’s La Bohème

Anna Netrebko is the brightest star within opera right now. She is a modern and masterly diva of the 21st century whose voice is world-class and whose stage presence is unique. She frequently guests the world’s leading opera houses, including The Met in New York, La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera Covent Garden in London, and the Salzburg Festivals. Her ravishing looks have made her a media darling and she is furthermore the only opera singer to date to have made it to the annual Time Magazine list of the world’s most influential people.

Artistic Director of the Royal Danish Opera Kasper Holten: “Anna Netrebko gives concerts worldwide but generally only takes the time for stage appearances at the world’s six or seven principal opera houses. Her performance in La Bohème in Copenhagen is a noble endorsement of the Royal Danish Opera and the reputation we have achieved as one of the most interesting opera stages in Scandinavia.”

Anna Netrebko will be supported by a highly accomplished cast of singers from the Royal Danish Opera. At the two first performances she will appear alongside Peter Lodahl as Rodolfo, Palle Knudsen as Marcello and Gisela Stille as Musetta.

The subsequent performances will feature Ylva Kihlberg and Gitta-Maria Sjöberg as Mimi, Niels Jørgen Riis as Rodolfo, Djina Mai-Mai and Lina Johnson in the role as Musetta, and Mathias Hausmann as Marcello. Other cast members include Ludvig LindströmThomas StormWaltteri TorikkaJens Bruno Hansen and Mogens Gert Hansen.  The conductor’s podium will be helmed by the highly experienced conductors Marc Piollet and Paolo Carignani, who will both hold their debut at the Royal Danish Opera.  Anna Netrebko’s appearance has been made possible by generous support from the OAK Foundation Denmark. The Danish Research Foundation is the principal sponsor of the Royal Danish Opera.
